This may seem like the silliest video, how to check your car's oil. But I have a teenage daughter and have learned from her that many of her friends that drive, have no clue how to check the oil in their cars.

Adhere to these three major rules to checking oil in your car. Number one rule, ensure the car is on level ground. Number two, the engine CANNOT be running when you check the oil. Number three, let the engine sit for about 2 to 3 minutes after shutting the engine off before checking the oil.

Most car manufacturers make the dipstick for engine oil yellow. If you find a red dipstick, that is most likely the one for the transmission fluid.
