The Shadhili Oceans

The Shadhili oceans flooded every seeker,
With the sublime transcendence, which we could not escape,
They made us know through our real identity that we are truly but servants,
Then, we drank from its most delicious drinks pure wine.

For, Imam al-Shadhili's rank is of very high,
He is a gnostic, an ocean and a saint in whom falling in love is sweet,
He is a sherif, a descendant of al-Hassan, a Sayyid who protects those who have bond with him,
His name, Ali, is sublime, so peace be upon him.

I travelled into his gardens, and embarked into his sanctuary,
Looking for the wine of gnosis, as nothing would quench my thirst except it,
So, he offered me jars of drinks, and dressed me from his collection,
With a garment that annihilated my being and left me burning in ecstasy.

He is the head of all the people of Allah, and through him they reached Allah,
He was granted by his Lord a secret that minds cannot comprehend,
And Allah gave him the glad tidings that all his disciples are accepted, So, if you have any errand, beseech Allah by this imam.

Upon the Elect, Ahmad, the Seal of all Noble Messengers,
The one who reached the highest and most glorious rank, who was shaded by clouds,
Through whom we are granted felicity, and our thirst is quenched on the Crowded Day,
Whose name amongst us is Muhammad, there shall be all prayers from the Lord of mankind.

BIOGRAPHY

Shaykh Muhammad Al-Yaqoubi, a descendent Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is a world-renowned Syrian scholar of Islamic jurisprudence, hadith, and theology. He is widely recognised as one of the most influential Muslim leaders in the world; with his speeches, classes, and books having impacted thousands of lives for the better.

A prolific writer and poet, his most recent books - ‘Shama’il of al-Habib al-Mustafa’ and ‘Introduction to Sahih al-Bukhari’ - are indispensable for Muslim learners. He has penned 60 poems, of over 5000 lines, in praise of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ - including the doubling (tashtir) of the famous Burdah and Hamziyya poems - which earned him the title of ‘the Busiri of this time’.

In recognition of his work for building peace and harmony, and better understanding between all religious groups, Shaykh Al-Yaqoubi received the International Award of Ambassador of Liberty and Peace in 2016. (1)

For several years running, he has been ranked among the 50 most influential Muslims in the world, with the 2022 edition placing him 34th. (2)

His bestselling book, ‘Refuting ISIS’, has been published in 7 languages, including Arabic and English, and is widely heralded by critics. The book has played a significant role in the defeat of the ideology of Daesh and has been accredited with saving the lives of many youths, whilst helping people worldwide understand Islam’s position on this topical issue.

The Shaykh speaks 5 languages and has lectured in 35 countries.
