Everyone (hopefully!) knows that light is important in photography, but how does the quality of light and color actually affect a photo's emotions? The answers are baked into our subconscious, but by pulling them to the surface and thinking about them deliberately, we can improve our photos and master the use of light in photography.

This video explains the emotions associated with darkness, brightness, high contrast, low contrast, colors, and color contrast. More than any photography video about gear or camera settings, these are the things that will actually help you take better photos.

The key is to make sure that your light's emotions match your subject's emotions, which in turn match the mood you're trying to convey. It sounds easy on paper, but if you're able to do that in practice, your photos will skyrocket in quality. Hopefully this video helps you take that step.
