The V12 is dying. We've kept it alive with forced induction and hybridization, but even these measures won't save the thirstiest of internal combustion engines from its doom. On its way out, however, the twelve-cylinder is performing at its best. Only hydrogen and electric powertrains are smoother, and only ultra boosted motors are more potent. For these reasons, the V12 has been a natural fit for full-size luxury sedans like the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

The BMW M760i is among the most subtle $160K vehicles on sale. Loaded with premium materials and boasting over 600 horsepower, the flagship Bimmer is no flashier than a standard 7 Series. Sure, it appears out of reach for the average Joe (like any car in this segment), but just how out of reach is a mystery. For the overworked or over-socialized owner, these covert attributes are immensely appealing - as either a driver or a chauffeured passenger.

But when you're spending close to $200,000 with options, even a silky, robust V12 must be complemented by exclusive amenities. When V8-powered contenders like the Mercedes-AMG S63 and Audi S8 tout comfort, tech, and style at a more reasonable starting figure, the M760i is in for a fight. In this in-depth review, Miles explores the BMW M760i's performance, features, and design to decide which luxury sedan is best.
