Notice there is no Hyundai in my title? That is because this is not a Hyundai. This is a Genesis, and the company has made it apparent in every aspect possible. From a totally new design language, branding, price point, target consumer, powertrain, and more. Genesis is a new brand, and has taken on the challenge of building a car to go head to head against the BMW 3 series, Mercedes C Class, and the Audi A4. How will the new Korean brand compare against the proven German rivals?

You can look at this in two ways. You could say that BMW, Mercedes, and Audi have decades of experience building semi Luxurious Sport Sedans, so the Genesis is at a disadvantage. Or you can say that Genesis has had decades to examine, understand, and improve upon these companies. So they must produce a high quality car that addresses all of the issues that its German rivals continue to present. The main issue that the Genesis can improve upon? Reliability. None of its German rivals produce a reliable engine. These brands are all known to spend more time at the shop than they do in your garage. Genesis has an opportunity to offer the only reliable option, and that should be their selling point.

Let's talk Genesis G70 styling. The interior and the exterior share the same key word. Safe. Neither interior nor exterior design is controversial. Not the least bit. Everybody will tell you it looks fine, but nobody will tell you it looks absolutely amazing, or that it is absolutely hideous. There is no real opinion here because the Genesis design team is still finding themselves and their position in the market. And I understand that. As a new company, the last thing you want is to lose half your potential audience because you wanted a “shock factor” in terms of design.

The car performs well, nice a punchy engine. Handles just fine (theres that word again). So, will Genesis be able to steal Mercedes Benz, BMW, or Audi customers? Watch the full video to find out.
