Tazria (Sat.13th April/5th Nissan)
A Baby in Mother’s Womb
Your Weekly Mission - By Rabbi Laibl Wolf
This week’s parsha, Tazria begins with a discussion of conception and birth. Just as a baby in its mother’s womb, is bent over, unseeing, and fully dependent, so are the Jewish people in similar state when in exile. When Moshiach appears, we will no longer be bent over, unseeing of higher truths, and will be fully independent of the nations of the world
Notes:
• The Parsha of Tazria begins with a description of conception of a child. We know that when a child is still in the mother’s womb its head is bent forward between its knees, mouth is closed, eyes unseeing, only the navel is open for deeding. It is dependent on the mother.
• Upon birth, the head straightens up, the mouth opens, the navel is closed up, and eyes strive for light.
• This transformation is a metaphor for the Jewish people during exile and upon messianic liberation. In exile we lack the life-giving energy of a higher spiritual flow, our self-esteem is lower (head bent downwards), our discussion of Torah is lower quality (mouth closed) and our eyes are unseeing of the truth of creation, and seemingly dependent on the attitude on other nations.
• But when Moshiach appears, all that will change. We will have national self-realization, the Torah will be understood a quantum more profoundly than now, and we will have total independence from the nations of the world who will come and admire the third Temple.
• The baby will be born and see light of day
