The Specialized S-WORKS SL8 came out to much fanfare for being a 6.5kg road bike. However, at $15,000 it's out of most people's price range.

Which got me thinking... Just how impressive is 6.5kg? Could I go sub-6 kg? And how much would it cost by picking parts with great performance-to-cost ratios?
