In his time as a secret agent during World War II, John K. Singlaub played important parts in both Europe and the Pacific. At first, Singlaub worked for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). For Operation Jedburgh, he parachuted into occupied France and organized and trained a French Resistance team. His time in France showed how good a leader and tactician he was, preparing him for future special missions.
After France was freed, Singlaub offered to serve in the Far East. There, he trained a guerrilla unit in China to fight in Indochina, which was occupied by Japan. His guidance was very important in completing a dangerous mission to free Allied prisoners of war on Hainan Island, showing how dedicated he was to the success of covert operations.
During World War II, Singlaub did something both brave and smart. He helped build the U.S. secret Forces and set the standards for how the military does secret operations that are still used today. This person's story shows how brave and resourceful OSS agents were who worked behind enemy lines, often in very dangerous situations, to help the Allies win the war.
