Cardinal Numbers from 20–99
In lesson 28, we explored the cardinal numbers from 1 to 19 and the rules governing them. We are now going to look at the numbers from 20 to 99 by dividing them into three groups:
a) Numbers ending in a zero;
b) Numbers ending in a one or a two;
c) Numbers ending in a digit from three to nine.

a) Numbers ending in a zero (e.g. 20, 30, 40 etc.)

Numbers ending in a zero remain the same no matter whether they are
referring to a masculine or a feminine noun. These numbers are regarded as nouns, and they follow the rules governing the sound masculine plural.

b) Numbers ending in a one or a two (e.g. 21, 22, 31, 32 etc.)

These are formed from the combination of two numbers. The first part of the number (i.e. the 1 or 2 part) agrees with the noun it governs in terms of gender. The first part of the number also declines, according to its grammatical role within the sentence.

c) Numbers from 20–99 ending in a digit from 3 to 9
These numbers, like 21 and 22, are formed from the combination of two numbers joined by part of the number (i.e. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9) takes the opposite gender to the noun it is describing (in much the same manner as the numbers from 3 to 9.
The first part of the number is fully declinable and takes tanween
within the sentence.
The second part of the number (i.e. the 20, 30, 40 part etc.) is again declined like a sound masculine.
