In FDA v. the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, a group of pro-life medical doctors is challenging the Food and Drug Administration's approval of mifepristone, the first of 2 drugs used in the abortion pill regime. The doctors allege that the FDA removed necessary safeguards from mifepristone, including the need for in-person doctor visits. Jamie Manson with Catholics for Choice says, "One in four abortion patients identify as a Catholic. And so I wanted to represent that voice in the hope ultimately of opening up a conversation. Abortion is an issue that affects a lot of Catholic women. I'm concerned that our Church isn't listening to them." Dr. Susan Bane says, "I have helped women, as well as thousands of my colleagues. What we're seeing is that one in 25 women will have health complications. And because of that, we are put in a position to help them... Women and girls who take high-risk drugs need the medical attention and care of a doctor... 1 in 25 will end up in the emergency department. We simply want those safeguards back in place. So that when women choose to use abortion drugs, they have the same level of care that other people get."
