Hot off AJAC's Small Utility Vehicle of 2021, we're looking at the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Outdoor to figure out how this made the top pick from Canadian Automotive Journalists, as we're puzzled.

We've had the chance to drive most of Subaru's Canadian vehicle lineup over the years including their crossovers and popular compact sedan, the Impreza. The Crosstrek began it's life as a lifted Subaru Impreza and really hasn't changed much, despite getting a facelift for 2021. In fact we discuss in this video how the Crosstrek still ultimately is an Impreza with a slight ground clearance advantage. Our full tour and review of this subcompact crossover, and AJAC winner of Canada's Small Crossover for 2021, goes over everything you need to know if you're in the market for the middle-of-the-road trim that's designed for some rougher weather.

We discuss how this vehicle differs from the Impreza including the interior and exterior dimensions, along with the 2.5L boxer engine, CVT, symmetrical all wheel drive, and suite of safety technology through Subaru's EyeSight technology. We also explain the differences between our 'Outdoor' trim sold in Canada, as it's essentially the same as the 'Sport' sold in the United States, however Subaru Canada markets a different set of equipment under the 'Sport' trim here in Canada.

We then take the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Outdoor on a winter road test to talk about the winter tires on this vehicle, as well as how this vehicle performed on our fuel economy test loop and how it compares to our 2021 Kia Seltos SX long term test vehicle. We discuss some of the reasons why buyers might be tempted to this vehicle over the plethora of competitors in the segment, and our overall thoughts on the Crosstrek in general.
