City designers, urban councils and citizens alike can learn something from this insightful talk about curating public spaces to activate engagement and delight in every person.

Mara Holt Skov is a San Francisco-based art and design historian and curator specializing in twentieth-century European and American art and design. She is interested in the cultural and historical context of design as it changes and is changed by broader forces. She is particularly passionate about identifying rising macrotrends in design and visual culture, considering how we design for human needs (especially health, wellness and death) and watching the continued convergence of fine arts, craft, design and popular culture.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
