Most people interested in military aviation have at least a general idea about the 1982. Lebanon War that was fought between Israel and Syria. And most of them also know that the war ended in a major victory for Israel and especially its Air Force which eliminated Syrian Surface-to-air missile threat and shot down a large number of Syrian fighters without an air-to-air loss. But what chance did the Syrians have? Could any of them have shot down a much more modern and sophisticated F-15 or F-16? In two cases, they came close. One of these cases was already covered on this channel. The second one, even closer will be covered in this video.
A flight lead by Yoram Peled and Eitan Ben-Eliyahu, both of whom had participated in the first air combat for F-15 in history three years previously, was sent to a CAP station over Bekaa Valley in Lebanon. They then intercepted a pair of MiG-21s but some more would make sudden appearance and be almost fatal for Ronen Shapira, son of former Israeli Air Force chief test pilot.
This scenario is a rare one where DCS World actually provides assets that enable reenactment of a scenario without much approximation. The actual location and aircraft protagonist being available.
