We have seen how social and digital media can be used in marketing, but the War in Ukraine shows us how it can be a powerful tool for bringing the experience of a war zone to our living rooms and pockets through handheld devices. The concept of the proximity of trust states that the level of trust relates directly to proximity. Bringing the war closer to us built trust and has swayed public opinion. This is very different from the way social media was used (some might say manipulated) during the Facebook/Cambridge Analytica scandal. What do we need to be aware of in terms of how social media affects public opinion? How can Japan use social and digital media to better communicate with the world? Our panel covers these topics in order to craft a grand design for a post-COVID world.
