Over the past 25 years the GMC Denali nameplate has become one of GMs most successful sub brands, and it all started with the introduction of the GMT400 based Yukon Denali for the 1999 model year. To help differentiate GMC from Chevrolet, the Denali was launched alongside an upscale version of the GMC Jimmy called the GMC Envoy. In 2001 the second generation Yukon Denali would be introduced, now offering a long wheelbase body style. An upscale Sierra 1500 would also be offered in an extended cab body style, but would be badge the Sierra C3. for 2002 the C3 would be rebadged as the Sierra Denali, which was identical to the C3 other than having standard Quadrasteer rear wheel steering. Over the following years the Denali treatment would become available on all models except for the Savana van.
