First of all, Santa Cruz is not a pickup. Classified by Uncle Sam as an SUV, Hyundai is adamant that it's a Sport Adventure Vehicle designed for urban dwellers to get their chores done then haul bikes and surfboards out of town for weekend fun. With a 52-inch molded composite bed, it's much smaller than Honda Ridgeline but more versatile than you might think. And it's easier to garage than any mid-sized pickup. Tom Voelk drives to (where else?) Santa Cruz, California to check out a turbocharged AWD Limited model to see if the Hyundai designers and engineers have found the perfect utility vehicle wave, or created another Subaru Baja. Tom attended a manufacturer's event for this review. Opinions, as always, are all his.
