Aankhein is a gazal which has been composed in a not so gazal form.
Aankhein reminds me of winter. It was written about the feeling of union of a lover and a beloved but it ends painfully in separation. Aankhein is a visual lyric. It talks about grief and an idealist’s idea of union in love. But then it breaks the listener’s heart with an infuriating idea of not ending up together. Aankhein was created using the idea of “Stream of Consciousness”.
It is a free fall composition with no chorus. The singing can be equated with wailing. It challenges the rules of gazal yet wants to be known as a gazal.

Faheem says : I wrote Aankhein in the peak days of me feeling the poet within. It wasn’t composed for a long long time. It was only at a jam that it got composed and then the second and the last session was held in the studio while recording the song.
It invokes the fear of love in me and I hope it does the same to my audience.
