I've had my fair share of nasty surprises with my air cooled 911's, but the call I got from my mechanic about this Porsche ownership problem was the one I didn't want to get.

In this video you're going to get a look at why owners sometimes question their own sanity for loving these cars. The joy they bring when they're fully sorted and running well is second to none; however, the pain and aggravation of the typical Porsche ownership problems - not to mention the financial costs - of getting them there is really too much for many guys to bear.

I've owned this 1976 Porsche 911 for a few months and it recently developed really strange vibration whenever I got on the throttle. It happens whether the car is in motion, in gear, out of gear or sitting still.

I initially hoped that the root of this issue was nothing more than an exhaust resonance problem...but sadly this was not the case at all.

Instead, the root of my problem lies with the transmission in the car. And unfortunately, this requires a specialist to open up the 915 gearbox.

Along these lines, when you drop the gearbox out of a vintage 911, you need to also drop the engine. And, as the old saying goes, when the motor is already out of the car, you should address any other problems that it has.

This includes resealing the motor, replacing fuel lines and generally cleaning it up.

So, in this video we'll take you through the reality of life with a huge Porsche ownership problem...and hopefully get you hooked on joining me for the rest of the journey.
