How Clean Do My Recyclables Need to Be?How clean do your recyclables need to be? That is a great question and one that we get all the time. In general, the rule is that your recyclables should just get a quick rinse before being thrown into the recycling bin. Of course there are some exceptions. Things like a really dirty peanut butter jar or maybe an aluminum foil that you have baked your turkey in and there is a lot of food residue on the bottom. Those things should get a little extra rinsing before being thrown in the recycling bin. What I would do is maybe take a quick sponge around and get some of the food residue out before throwing it in but in general food residue isn’t a huge deal because the materials get melted down and the food residue will burn off quicker than the plastic will melt.If you have more questions on recycling, visit www.bouldercountyrecycles.org.And, remember Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Compost.
