2005 Subway 500
Martinsville Speedway
October 23, 2005

The 2005 Chase for the NEXTEL Cup has past the halfway mark as they run the traditional fall race at Martinsville. Jeff Gordon missed the Chase, but that didn't prevent him from his usual winning ways, getting his first win with new crew chief and now NBC commentator Steve Letarte. It was emotional as it marked one year after the Hendrick Motorsports plane tragedy that occurred at Martinsville.

The race set a record for cautions in a fall Martinsville race at the time with 19. Michael Waltrip had one of his bad days here, getting collected in at least 3 caution flags. Kurt Busch had another one of his angry moments as he got a one-lap penalty for rough driving, spinning out Michael Waltrip.

Due to tape constraints, some sections of the race are skipped, but I hope that I didn't take out any of the cautions.
