Wat Arun Ratchawararam (วัดอรุณราชวราราม ราชวรมหาวิหาร), meaning Temple of Dawn, is a Buddhist temple located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, Thailand. It was built in the 17th century, during the Ayutthaya period, and named after Aruna, the Hindu god of the dawn. The temple has a towering central spire, or prang, that is 79 meters (259 ft.) high and decorated with colorful porcelain and seashells. The spire symbolizes Mount Meru, the center of the universe in Hindu cosmology and was constructed in the early 19th century by King Rama II and King Rama III in honor of King Taksin. Wat Arun is one of the most iconic and world-famous landmarks in Thailand. It is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Bangkok.
