Hey folks! So if you've watched some of my previous AMC Eagle restoration videos you'll see that I've been doing my best to slowly restore and fix this fine piece of automotive history.

Recent work I've done to this nice station wagon Eagle include adding the AMC front license plate, replacing the leaking valve cover gasket, degreased the engine, and other little things.

In this video I address the issue of the woodgrain appliqué decal that is on the sides of the body. Now, these decals are original to the car and 35 years old. To be honest the decals are in pretty good shape considering the age but I can tell you from experience that the number one thing that causes the decal to break down and fall off at this point is the sun. If these cars sit out in the sun for long periods of time they degrade fast. If you are lucky enough to be able to keep your car stored indoors the decal will be kept in much better condition. My decals really degraded in the last year since the car was outside a lot, whereas the previous owner kept it indoors almost all year round.

I have a previous video from about a year ago where I attempted to protect the wood grain decals using a product called 303 Aerospace Protectant. It helps protect vinyl elements from the sun's UV rays. Well in the end that didn't last as long as I would have liked so what I did to remedy that is I had a body shop apply 2K Clearcoat to the vinyl woodgrain decal.

So what do you think, was this a smart or crazy idea? Check out my other AMC Eagle videos in my playlist, thanks.
