Soil sampling Steps:
1. Select an area of similar soil texture and slope that is 1
hectare or smaller
2. With a clean shovel collect soil across the field to be used for
planting
3. Dig a hole the depth and width of a spade
4. Use the spade to cut a thin slice of soil from one side of the hole and put in a bucket or sheet
5. Take samples from between 10 –20 sites
6. Mix all the samples well
7. Place a 1kg sample from the mixed samples into a paper bag and submit to ARC laboratory or
8. Dispatch sample in tightly packed in cooler boxes or in
cardboard boxes
9. Label containers clearly with name and address of ARC laboratory and return address of sender
