Payzee Mahmod was coerced into a marriage when she was only 16. She escaped that marriage and has since exposed the effects of forced marriage on children across the world.

She told us her story and discussed the change in legislation in England and Wales that will raise the legal age of marriage.

Child marriage is often associated with domestic abuse, leaving education early, limited career opportunities, and serious physical and mental health problems. The change honours the Government’s commitment to the pledge made to the United Nations to end child marriage by 2030.
