Seat Leon is a compact hatchback, which is in production since 1998. Leon means “lion” in Spanish. It is also the name of one of the Spanish provinces, and old kingdom, which became one of the foundations of medieval Spain. “Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo” or SEAT was set up in 1950. Just a few years later it went into cooperation with Fiat. This cooperation lasted almost 30 years. But when the money for investments run out, in stepped Volkswagen. Thanks to the new owner SEAT has access to common parts and new tech. And that’s good. But there are also some disadvantages.

I talked about those disadvantages in length in my 2014 3rd generation Seat Leon review. After a head-turning 2nd gen car, the 3rd generation was bland to say the least in terms of looks, functionality, and even driving. I couldn’t understand why Volkswagen bothers keeping Seat alive, and offers the Leon between the Octavia and the Golf. But the new Leon is bringing back the Auto Emocion.
