Steps to check and replacing your DC motor carbon brushes:
1. Disconnect power
2. Remove carbon brush covers
3. Remove brush electrical connection
4. Remove clips/springs
5. Remove Carbon brush making note of direction of beveled edge, and inspect brush
6. Inspect motors internals and motor commutator
7. Install new DC motor brush with bevel in the correct direction
8. Fasten clips or springs, replace covers

Operate your motor at no load to test it.
