On January 31st, 1999, the very first episode of Family Guy aired on Fox, and, despite a few hiccups along the way, the show is still one of the most popular animated comedies you’ll find on television, and it’s success quickly led to the creation of a few more animated projects produced by the show’s creator and main voice actor, Seth MacFarlane, including the likes of American Dad and The Cleveland Show, before, eventually in 2012, MacFarlane gained the opportunity to make his feature-length directorial debut with Ted, that also turned out to be a hit, as it brought in 556 million dollars worldwide at the box office on a budget of 50 million, making it the 12th highest grossing film of that year. So, three years later in 2015, a sequel titled Ted 2 was released as well, although it didn’t get quite the reception that the original did, with it bringing in about 217 million dollars on a budget of 68 million and ranking 36th at the box office that year. But, still, the franchise has proven successful enough for a prequel series to be greenlit, once again titled Ted and releasing on January 11th, 2024, so, ahead of the new series, we’ve decided to take a look back at the two previous Ted installments and run down everything that took place.
