Welcome everyone to my review of the BYD Seal..

BYD are probably an automotive maker most people in the UK have not heard of. But they are a giant in the industry and especially when it comes to EV's. They are the first brand to launch a PHEV, way back in 2008 and last year ceased production of ICE cars. So this Chinese brand knows a thing or two. They have also been in battery production for nearly 25 years, producing batteries for everything from phones/tablets, to Teslas!!

Now it's their turn to get in on the action, here in the UK and Europe. Arriving back in March 2023 BYD launched their first model. The Atto 3, a spacious and affordable SUV taking on the likes of the Jeep Avenger, MG ZS EV and Ssangyong Korando Emotion.

This was followed by the Dolphin. A small affordable electric hatchback which is taking on the likes of the MG4 and (now discontinued) Renault Zoe.

But, BYD have saved their 3rd car for last in 2023. The Seal!!

Taking on the mighty Tesla Model 3, Hyundai IONIQ 6 and ID.7, the Seal aims to shake up the electric saloon segment.

Using the new e-platform 3.0, the Seal incorporates the latest EV tech to be more efficient, safe and with excellent performance.
With rigid Cell to body technology, the Seals Blade batteries have past rigorous safety test, including the nail penetration test.
The Seal also features the first mass-produced 8-in-1 electric powertrain. Allowing better efficiency, not only when the car drives, but also in manufacturing.

The battery is a 82.5kWh blade battery which (depending on trim) can be RWD with a single motor or AWD with a dual motor.

The RWD Design comes with 308 bhp/360Nm, 354 miles of range and a 0-62 time of 5.9s.

The AWD Excellence comes with 523bhp/670Nm, 323 miles or range and a 0-62mph time of 3.8s. An impressive feat which is noted on the boot lid of the Excellence.

Charging is at a maximum of 150kW which is respectable, if not class best so charging from 10-80% takes 37 mins.

Any further questions about the Seal, put them down in the comment section below.
