Conventional auto: best for towing, smoothest overall, decent sporty driving engagement - but worst for fuel economy.

CVT: (Continuously variable transmission: Good for fuel economy, lousy for sporty driving engagement, mediocre at best for towing.

DCT (or DSG) - the notorious dual-clutch transmission, the reputation of which was trashed by global dodgy designs from Ford and Volkswagen. Great for sporty driving engagement, good for fuel economy, but lousy for towing anything heavy, easy to unwittingly abuse in traffic at low speed, and not very good at low-speed refinement.
