While reporting in Vadakkanad, a village surrounded by forests in Kerala’s Wayanad, The Quint’s reporter had a close encounter with wild elephants on the road. Incidentally, Wayanad, the Lok Sabha constituency where Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is seeing re-election, has seen at least three deaths due to elephant attacks this year – and Vadakkanad village is quite literally at the centre of human-wildlife conflict.
