So, with Chicago's mayoral runoff election coming up, there could be some trouble for NASCAR's Chicago Street Race (now known as the Grant Park 220) beyond 2023. Aldermen from the city's wards have been very critical of the deal and it is possible that the new mayor may try to get out of the deal which runs through at least 2025. The city is set to only make a fraction of the revenue that it makes from Lollapalooza and now the Taste of Chicago festival will be moved as well. Portions of the park will be closed for as long as a month in the middle of the summer as well. It is too late for the city to back out for 2023, however, they may be able to back out of future races.

There is a better way for NASCAR to get the street races that they desire though, while simultaneously drawing in new fans and doing something that other racing series like Formula 1, IndyCar, and IMSA don't do. Get universities involved. Start in Columbus with Ohio State University and get universities like the University of Texas, Georgia Tech, and NC State competing for the opportunity to host races in their city. That is just my thought, so let me know what you think and thanks for watching!
