Shaikh Mohamed El-Sharkawy (Egypt)
Received his primary education at Al-azhar, Cairo, until eventually gained Alimiyyah in 1969 with speciality in Tafsir and Hadith.

In 1981, he gained a BA in Hebrew and the history of Banu Israel. In 1993, he received his first PhD for thesis titled ‘Role of Scholars in Reviving the Sciences of Sunnah against the Expansion of Shi’sm in the fourth and fifth century after Hijra’. In 2003, he had received his second PhD for thesis titled ‘Christianity and the West’.

He occupied various positions such as secondary education teacher at Al Azhar (1970 – 1982). He was then deployed by Al Azhar to teach at Darul Uloom, Birmingham (1990 – 1993) and then as an Imam at Regent’s Park Mosque, London (1993 – 2001).

In 2002, he joined the prison service as an Imam at HMP The Mount. In 2007, he won the prestigious Justice Award and the Justice Shield for writing a Restorative Justice programme for prisoners based on the story of Prophet Yusuf (a.s) in the Quran.

He also authored a programme on countering extremist ideologies.
