Two United States Air Force (USAF) B-1B strategic bombers were intercepted by Russian MiG fighter jets during a mission near Norway. The two bombers reportedly approached Russian airspace but turned back.
The incident occurred on March 24 over the Barents Sea north of Norway. According to a report from The Barents Observer, two USAF Rockwell B-1B Lancer bombers were conducting missions in Norwegian and international airspace. The Russian Defense Ministry said air traffic control (ATC) identified two strategic bombers approaching Russian airspace over the Barents Sea before deploying MiG-31 fighter jets to intercept the US plane.
