Surah Luqman, represents the 31st surah of the Quran. Composed of 34 verses, it was proclaimed during the Meccan period. This is the 6th surah which begins with the Arabic letters, Alif, La and Mim.

Its title refers to the content of the twelfth verse "Thus we gave Luqman Wisdom". Indeed, the sura deals with the story of Luqman, a wise man with many moral qualities, who would have lived in the 11th century (BC), probably during the reign of King David. The sura tells us of the teachings that the sage had given to his son (non-believer) before he succeeded in bringing him back to the religion of Islam.

Analyzing the style of the surah, scholars of Islam agree that it was revealed at the beginning of the persecution. Indeed, at that time, the leaders of Quraysch used all means to hinder the prophetic mission and the generalization of Islam.

The sura describes the characteristics of faithful believers, those of disbelievers and oppressors. We find between the twelfth and the nineteenth verse, the story of the story of Luqman and the teachings he had given to his son.

By revealing this sura, Allah invites men to realize for themselves the veracity of monotheism and the absurdity of polytheism. He warns them against the temptations of this world and calls them to adopt the right path while informing them of the certain arrival of the Day of Judgment.

Narrated by: Omar Hisham Al Arabi.
