With a starting price of Rs. 11.16 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Honda City competes against the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz, VW Vento, Skoda Rapid and Skoda SlaviaIn the variant on test, we had the 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine mated to a 7-step CVT. While we all know how they perform in the city, how well are they at handling steep rocky terrains. Well, we aim to find out just that in this transmission hill test.

The all-new fifth-generation Honda City saw its world premiere last year on the 25th of November and though we were all set to get our hands on it in March 2020, thanks to the on-going Corona pandemic, lockdown ensured our lives came to a halt. Since then, I have tried to understand the car better via pictures and videos but the latter being in a southeast Asian language, I could hardly gather what the new City was all about. Fast forward to June though and we finally got to pick up the vehicle (with all safety procedures in place of course) and thankfully, had all the three engine-gearbox combinations for the better part of the day. To mark and celebrate its tenth-anniversary, ASEAN NCAP announced its Decade Of Safer Vehicle Awards recently to recognise the vehicle safety achievements of car companies. The Honda City was awarded the Excellent Award for Consistent Five-star. The fifth-gen Honda City safety ratings stood at 5 stars and the previous two generations of the car too scored a perfect score of five in the year 2012 and 2014 respectively. The new Honda City takes on the rivals like the Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Ciaz in the Indian market and also faces stiff competition from the upcoming sedans from Skoda and Volkswagen.
