Kia continues to boost its role in the electric vehicle car manufacturing arena with the reveal of brand new EV6 crossover. Although the EV6 is not the first electric type vehicle from this Korean automaker, it is the first model to fully rely on electric power only. Other Kia electric cars such as KIA Soul EV and KIA Niro EV are also available as gasoline versions or gasoline- electric hybrids.

Similarly to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV, The KIA EV6 also rides on Hyundai Motor Company’s electric-global modular platform (E-GMP), which can be modified as four-wheel drive or rear wheel drive variants. Power to the rear-mounted or rear and front mounted electric motors comes courtesy of either a 58-Kwh or 77-kWh battery pack. The rear-drive EV6 estimated driving range goes up to 316 miles with combined cycle. Probably plunges a bit below 300-mile figure on the more conservative EPA measuring cycle.

Option for the small battery back and rear-wheel drive in EV6 makes approximately 170 hp from its single electric motor. If choosing all-wheel drive, however, brigs around 230 ponies behind the EV6’s gas pedal. Choosing the larger battery, meanwhile, aims to the more power – 220hp and 320hp respectively.

Despite the fact that EV6 and its Ioniq 5 brother share the same platform, the two do not share many – if any – interior or exterior accents. Whereas the Hyundai got some retro-futuristic and in mean time simple design, the KIA’s styling takes on a more dramatic and sporting shape. Low-mounted headlights, massive fenders, a floating roofline, taillights that span the width of the body bring an athletic, and kind a generic, look to the EV6.
