Miss World has a seal that makes it unique among all the pageants on the planet (and it is not only its iconic blue crown) it is the coronation march. Extensive research has been carried out in order to reveal some of the most unprecedented information about this march, its creator and its history. Let's talk about William Ernest Adolphus Pritchard, born in September 1897 and died in January 1972. He had nine children, including Julia Evelyn Pritchard, a twin born in 1939, who is also relevant in this story. William had a life very close to music, since his adolescence, he was playing on the piano, and in his adulthood, he already composed and wrote his own music. King George VI died in 1952 and months later, a renowned British newspaper launched a call to elect a written Coronation March for Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. Pritchard had already written his march and was going to enter the competition, but declined. his participation knowing that if he was the winner, the newspaper would have all the rights to the march, so he did not want to participate and decided to keep his work. His daughter Julia Evelyn married the creator of the Miss World pageant, Eric Morley, in 1957 and she became Mrs. Morley. In 1961, upon learning that Pritchard had a coronation march in his repertoire, Eric asked if he could use it for the Miss World pageant; William accepted. On November 9, 1961, "The Coronation March" sounded live for the first time at the Lyceum Ballroom in London, a work created by William Pritchard, directed by Joe Loss and his orchestra, while he walked with a new crown the recently released world beauty queen, Rosemarie Frankland, Miss World 1961 from the United Kingdom (also the first British to win the title. Very patriotic that night, right?) Throughout the world beauty pageant, this march has had a total of 09 versions since its premiere in 1961. On March 24, 1972, a studio version of what is now called “Miss World Coronation March” was released, which was organized by Cy Payne, under the production of Frewin-CBS, directed by Phil Tate and His Orchestra belonging to the Chappell Library of Recorded Music, first released in 1964. Interestingly, this version was released just two months after William Pritchard's death and used only once at Priyanka Chopra's coronation as Miss World 2000 (on the 50th anniversary of the pageant and just two weeks after Eric Morley's death). . Today, the march is still used, with some changes and editions, but it still has the essence of what once upon a time, an incredible master of music created for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and that, due to fate Today it is used to accompany the queens who have been crowned Miss World on their first walks with beauty, elegance and neatness.
