Here's a quick & easy way to find a wall stud without a stud finder. It's free and more accurate than just about any stud finder you can buy.

PLEASE REMEMBER to shut off your power before trying this! Also, instead of poking a metal nail next to your outlet, you could also use a toothpick, wood skewer, piece of plastic, etc to be safer.
