Welding spatter is some of the most frustrating things when we are welding because the molten metal can fly around the welding puddle which can make your welding job look unprofessional and ugly. And even though flux core welding seems to reduce welding spatter a little, there will always be spatters along the way even if you're an expert welder . As the electrode touches the metal.

So what is the best solution to this problem? The use of a welding spatter spray of course. However, are these commercial products safe for welders because as I know, the chemicals on these sprays contain hazardous chemicals such as methyl chloride? This is why I thought of creating a video to compare the performance of a commercial anti spatter product to Canola oil cooking oil and see which of these are better in preventing welding spatters as well as safer for the welder.

Why I have considered Canola oil to be my anti splatter alternative is because not only some of my viewers have suggested it to me but I have done my own research if this could really reduce the possibility of splatter sticking on the metal around the welding spot. As I’ve found out, Canola oil can be used as a preventive welding splatter spray because of its oily protective barrier it can coat the surface of the metal. So every time molten metal lands around the metal spot sprayed with the oil it could just slide off or is a lot easier to remove with a wire brush.

Yet, some of you would want to see the results if an organic anti spatter spray alternative like canola oil could beat a costly commercial welding splatter spray product. For better comparison, I have shown here three flux core welding results for you to see, analyze and judge. The first welding serves as the control which I did not use any anti spatter stuff with. The second welding has the welding splatter spray on it and the third welding is with the anti spatter spray alternative or the Canola oil.

The purpose of the video, however, is not to tell people not to patronize anti spatter spray products but to make their own decisions if they are looking for safer alternatives other than risking their health by inhaling fumes from welding mixed with the toxic chemicals that come from the anti spatter products. The main objective of this video, nevertheless, is to provide welders with the safest solutions to protect their health.
