From Task-Based Language Teaching and Skills to the Action-Oriented Approach and Modes of Communication: A Paradigm Shift

Dr. Giacomo Folinazzo holds a PhD in Language and Literacies Education from OISE-University of Toronto. He has taught languages for 21 years, in Canada, Italy, and Japan, and lectured a variety of language, culture, communication, second language learning and TESL courses at Brock University, York University, University of Toronto Missisauga, Western University, Mohawk College, Università degli Studi della Tuscia (Italy) and Niagara College. His most recent research projects on language education and teacher training include Divari, with the Ministry of Education in Italy, and University of Toronto’s SSHRC-funded LINCDIRE and Comprendiamoci. Dr. Folinazzo maintains an active academic life with research, publications, training sessions, workshops and conference presentations in Europe, North America, and the Middle East. His research interests revolve around language teacher training, language education, the CEFR, linguistic mediation and the Action-oriented Approach. In September 2024, Dr. Folinazzo will launch the Centre for Research in Education in the Niagara Region, the first of its kind in Canada.
