Causes of lean condition trouble codes P0171, P0174 - GM 5 3L

The vehicle being worked on is a 2004 Chevy Suburban with a 5.3L engine. It had multiple trouble codes in memory P0171 and P0174 (fuel system too lean bank 1 and 2) a P0101 (MAF circuit out of range) and a P0300 (engine misfire detected). All of these were related to one single problem.

Symptoms
- rough idle, especially cold
- check engine light (P0171, P0174, P0101, P0300)
- poor gas mileage
- hesitation on acceleration
- runs much better with engine warm

Fix
- replace intake manifold gasket
