You might look at compact cameras today and think "what's the point?" For the most part, I'd agree. That was until I tried this Canon Powershot G9 from 2007 - so much about this camera makes it a joy to shoot with. It pairs more 'pro' features of Canons DSLRs with a compact yet bulky body, it's not a compact that you lose very easily and has surprisingly useful ergonomics. For street photography, sometimes we're too busy with full-featured mirrorless cameras and foolproof telephoto lenses - it's important that we give equal time to more limited cameras like this. Street photography is an interesting genre that often asks you to approach the street in different ways to find what's working for you. Unlike a Leica, a Lumix LX100, a Fujifilm X100V or a Sony A7C this Powershot G9 doesn't offer heaps of flexibility, instead, it asks you to assess your position and make the most of the gear in your hand.
