This video contains:

👉🏻 Ferromagnetic Interaction: iron rich nails temporarily become dipole magnets in the presence of an intense magnetic field from a large neodymium super magnet. Here the neodymium disk magnet is set with its north pole pointing up, so the point of each nail becomes a south pole (repelling each other) and the head of each a north pole. Imbued with these temporary induced fields, the nails will try to align themselves with the neodymium dipole’s field like compass needles, and the nails will interact with each other in interesting ways.

👉🏻 The FluoroSphere: intricate and dynamic lights shows are produced within an elegant glass sphere as fluorescent dyes in mineral oil slowly mix into room temperature water. Ultraviolet LEDs (in the base on which the sphere rests) make the dyes glow brightly and reveal the initial nondiffusive mixing structure which includes the phenomena of drops, plumes, and other features of Rayleigh-Taylor instabilities.

👉🏻 Centripetal Egg: a simple rack and pinion mechanism spins up the tin egg shell to reveal a duckling in this vintage style tin toy.
(tintoy, centripetalacceleration, centrifuge, spinning, angularmomentum, kineticart, rotationalkineticenergy, elasticforce, hookeslaw)

👉🏻 Chaotic Magnet Pendulum: adding magnetic forces to gravity gives this pendulum chaotic motion- not random, but very sensitive to slight differences in initial launch conditions.
(chaos, pendulum, nonlinear, chaostheory)

👉🏻 LogicSticks: strong neodymium dipole magnets embedded within tactile hexagons which allows for side to side connection (unstable equilibrium) and top to bottom connection (stable equilibrium).
(logicsticks, magnet, magnetic, electromagnetism, hexagon)

👉🏻 Brief Intense Phosphorescence: a 405nm laser pointer excites the natural mineral Franklin calcite to briefly flash a red glow via brief intense phosphorescence(BIP) seen here as a trail of light following the violet laser dot on this spectacular specimen from the Sterling Hill zinc mine out of New Jersey.
(ultraviolet, uv, shortwaveuv, fluorescentminerals, mineralfluorescence)

👉🏻 The Dancing Helix: This kinetic mobile's mesmerizing motion arises from pulsed torsion waves that propagate up and down the length of a series of weighed rods connected by an elastic ribbon (which acts as a torsion spring).
(torque, angularmomentum)

👉🏻 Atomix: art and model of crystal structure and mathematical packing problems. Created by artist Francois Dallegret from acrylic and 5000 stainless steel spheres (no longer in production).
(art, atomix, mathtoy)

👉🏻 High Tech Rain Stick: white noise- the sound of two thousand metal spheres falling and bouncing through a plastic labyrinth creates a power spectrum of sound waves with all frequencies at equal intensity, creating the shhh sound we often encounter from many random processes.
(acoustics, rainstick)

👉🏻 3D Pentominoes: the 12 possible arrangements of five identical squares, joined edge to edge, form the set of all pentominoes. Since 12x5=60, the pentominoes can tile a 6 x 10 rectangle with no gaps (2339 ways to do this- yet even finding one solution is a challenge). This set of colorful pentominoes is made so that the height of each piece is the same as the width of the constituent squares, such that 3D constructions can be made. Since 3x4x5=60 one can build a box with these dimensions (amazingly, 3940 ways to do this- but again, finding one is still a fun challenge).
(mathpuzzle, mathstoy)
