Here is my recording of Rainer Maria Rilke’s Letters to a Young Poet. Originally published in 1929. Translated by Stephen Mitchell/M.D Herter Norton

I found sections of these letters very influential when I first encountered them, and many years later have found that I understand them differently, and perhaps more deeply than before - even if i don’t share all of Rilke’s views to the letter.

They are challenging to read - I hope they are at least easy to listen to. However my greater hope is to have caught something of Rilke’s well wishes to Mr. Franz Kappus - and to share those wishes with anyone listening. Be they young or old, artist or accountant…after all, there is always some youth in all of us, and something of the artist too.
