Joni Eareckson Tada first broke her neck and became paralyzed at age 17. For more than five decades she has lived with quadriplegia and chronic pain. Through it, she has found contentment in Jesus and allowed him to work in and through her life, reaching millions of people with her powerful story of perseverance and hope in Christ.

As a quadriplegic, Joni requires constant care, largely from her primary caregiver and husband, Ken Tada. Joni knows how demanding her care needs can be and how vital respite is for caregivers. She desires to help other families living with disability ensure that caregivers receive the break they need. It's why respite care is a key part of what Joni and Friends does.
