30% of the nation's fresh vegetables are grown in Lincolnshire. The South Holland area of Lincolnshire has always relied on seasonal labour who would come to the UK from Europe during peak periods and then return home. The end of free movement as a result of Brexit, together with the added complication of Covid means that this year, there is not a ready supply of labour in the district to harvest these crops.

The Government is not listening to growers in the area. Rather than accept that there is a need for seasonal immigration of unskilled workers, they are saying that the work should be done by the unemployed. With pay rates of £20 per hour being offered these vacancies are not being filled.

Do you want to see good food go to waste because of a dogmatic belief that unskilled workers are not needed from overseas?
