Stephen Thompson runs a huge pig farm in Derbyshire. Ever since Brexit he’s been facing a growing crisis. Labour shortages have meant there are not enough butchers to process his pork, meaning he can’t sell it to supermarkets.

The backlogs then mean that other pigs get too big, or that there are so many pigs he can’t shelter them all. The result is devastating to Stephen and farmers like him - they must send thousands of pigs to the slaughter to die in vain. But not only are these pigs dying for nothing, because of the labour shortages he warns there will still be a shortage of pork this Christmas regardless.
