Fabtech 2016 is November 16,17,18th in Las Vegas...and I hope to meet you there.
If you want to look me up and shoot the breeze, I will be hanging out for an hour on wed the 16th from 11am to 12noon at the Strong Hand Tools booth N2324...
and Also on thursday the 17th I will hang out from 11am to 12noon at ESAB Welding & Cutting Products Booth N4529.
. ..in this video I am stick welding uphill with 7018 electrode on a 2 foot long tee joint.
3f vertical Tee. 1/4" thick CRS. Miller Thunderbolt ac/DC stick welder I bought used off craigslist for 350 bones.
When I first struck an arc on the tee, I heard a super load buzz...Even though this machine had a pretty loud buzz, this time it was much louder than usual.
I looked at the miller operators manual and saw something called "noise adjustment screws" and I knew that was the problem.
These screws had loosened up to the point where the amperage crank wouldn't hold a setting.
After I unplugged the machine and tightened the screws a bit, it got a lot quieter.
