Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, everyone! You know the song “Silent Night”? Well, that never seemed like an apt description of the events of the Nativity to me. So here’s my response to that classic Christmas carol. I wrote this song the night before Christmas Eve last year and now it's finally seeing the light! I hope you enjoy!!

This song is dedicated to my Grandma, who inspired the song. Love you Grandma!!

Lyrics:
A husband shouts, pleading, "Where can she rest?"
The groans of her labour--"There's no room for guests"
The bleats and the neighs ringing in their ears
She cries, "The baby's drawing near."
The cries from the mother, the cries from the babe
As he takes his first breath, and she calls him by name
A prayer and a song rise into the night
"Praise to the One who sends us the Light!"

Call you this a silent night?
The angels' songs, the baby's cries
The shepherds shout in jubilee
"The Son of God is born!"

The bleats of the sheep as they graze in the night
The shepherds all shouting at a blast of light
The grand announcement, "Do not fear!
"The One you've waited for is near."
The sounds of the trumpets, a heavenly choir
As the angels sing songs with the harp and lyre
"Gloria to God on high!
"Praise to the One who sends us the Light!"

Call you this a silent night?
The angels' songs, the baby's cries
The shepherds shout in jubilee
"The Son of God is born!"

Call you this (call you this)
A silent night? (a silent night?)
The angels' songs (the angels' songs)
The baby's cries (the baby's cries)
The shepherds shout in jubilee (the shepherds' jubilee)
"The Son of God is born!"
"The Son of God is born!"
"The Son of God is born!"

Not to us, O Lord, not to us
But to Your name give glory
Because of Your loving kindness, because of Your truth.
-Psalms 115:1
