The FULL-LENGTH, 11-MINUTE journey to this journalistic landmark in history is posted on the VideoCollectables sister channel - VIDEO SCRAPBOOK (   • My Journey To The Legendary Garage Wh...  ) – Recorded July 1, 2023...When I heard the news that the underground parking garage in the Rosslyn section of Arlington County, Virginia (where Washigton Post reporter Bob Woodward repeatedly met with his FBI source regarding the investigation of the 1972 break in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters in the Watergate complex in Washington, DC) was scheduled for imminent demolition, I made it a priority to finally go to this place where history was made so I could see it for myself and then imagine what it was like for a young reporter covering the biggest story of his life - while also keeping the biggest secret of his life. The world only knew Woodward's inside source by the nickname "Deep Throat" and for 33 years that's all we knew. Until 2005, when former FBI deputy director William Mark Felt, Sr. - then 91 years old - came out of the shadows and declared to all who would listen that he was the man Woodward sought guidance from to confirm the accuracy of his reporting about the Watergate break-in and the subsequent cover-up scandal which ultimately sank the Nixon presidency. I ventured to the garage on a Sunday evening. I took photographs of the historical marker on the sidewalk next to the garage and some exterior shots of the entrance. I didn't expect to get in but it was Sunday and there was no one around. So I went in and searched for parking space #32 on level D. I found it. And then I decided I should bring you along too...(P.S. - Sorry about the heavy breathing. I was zipping around snapping shots before I started rolling video. I guess this indicates I'm not as young as I used to be.)
